All-level instruction clinics...

Sailboarding Safaris have been conducting professional clinics at Lake Clearwater for years. The clinics are conducted during February and are designed for sailors who have access to Windsurfers from beginners to advanced. Step-by-step tuition is provided under the guidance of WARREN FRANCIS - National Development Coach for the Australian Windsurfing Academy.

The real benefit will be to those who have attempted manoeuvres in the past, but do not completely understand the steps involved or the technique involved.

Wake up, enjoy a leisurely breakfast and then be guided by Warren to make those small rigging adjustments which will make all the difference to your sailing.

For the rest of the day you’ll enjoy the best of sailing and personal instruction for all levels. Beach clinics, on-the-water tuition, video analysis, goal setting and daily review sessions all ensure you receive as much, or as little, tuition as you would like.

Heaven is...

Lake Clearwater is in the Rakaia area of inland Canterbury, at the foot of the Southern Alps in New Zealand’s South Island. Nestled in the upper reaches of the Rangitata River, access is approximately 38km past Mt Somers and clearly signposted. It’s approximately two hours drive from Christchurch. No dogs or motor powered craft are permitted as this is a wildlife reserve.

Heavenly winds...

Lake Clearwater has a good reputation for big winds. On some days the Nor-easter thermal wind reaches this far inland providing warm, sunny conditions. The prevailing wind is Nor-west, funnelled down from the mountains so it’s a lot stronger. The lake is 1km x 5km and because it is shallow it gets very warm.

A heavenly lodge...

Accomodation is provided at the "Sailboarding Safari Lodges" at Lake Clearwater. These two adjoining Lodges accommodate 10 & 12 people and are very comfortable. The true kiwi "bach" atmosphere has been retained, providng a delicate balance between those modern comforts like hot showers, real coffee and new matresses, linen, curtains etc. We have recently renovated both lodges, completely recarpeting one and are in the process of finishing polishing the 1900's original floorboards in the other. For those past clients, the "Moran of Melbourne" lounge is still with us, however the view from the kitchen / lounge over the lakefront has been greatly enhanced by new entrance doors. Private double rooms and share twin / quad rooms are available. Share bathroom facilities prevail in both Lodges. The traditional "Aga" woodfire oven are in both lodges and provide a lovely evening atmosphere. Of course no holiday would be complete without an Aussie BBQue, so we have one of those as well. Accommodation is inclusive in the Clinic costs.

Heavenly alternatives...

Those bringing partners or families will find plenty of alternative activities such as mountain-bike riding, swimming and hiking for all levels. The surrounding mountains provide spectacular backdrops and provide great walking. During your morning sails you may also notice a number of trout jumping - these are ready to challenge you!
